Reports in recent years have shown significant changes in the world’s climate. All of these reports provide strong evidence that the earth’s temperature is rising day by day. This phenomenon of temperature rise is known as global warming which is happening due to various reasons. One of the main causes of global warming is the increase in carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. Most climate experts believe that the greenhouse effect is the biggest cause of global warming. Because of the greenhouse effect, the heat radiated from the earth’s surface is absorbed by greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, water vapor, etc.) and re-radiated into the atmosphere. Climate scientists predict that global temperatures could rise by 4 degrees Celsius by the middle of the next century. As a result, the world’s food-grain production capacity is likely to be severely reduced. At the same time, wildlife and wilderness will be damaged. Coastal areas and agricultural lands may be submerged due to rising sea levels. The worrying news for Bangladesh is that the lower southern part of the country is likely to go underwater one day as a result of rising sea levels. The main culprit of global warming is carbon dioxide gas, which is produced by burning fossil fuels, forests, and pollutants such as methane and chlorofluorocarbons. To control global warming, we need to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and increase the amount of oxygen. And that will only be possible if we plant more trees and reduce the number of carbon-dioxide-producing factories and faulty vehicles. For this, the common people and the government of our country need to be more aware.
