It is not raining during the rainy season, crops are being ruined due to lack of water. Several natural disasters like heavy rains, floods, and tidal surges are happening very frequently.
The main causes of air pollution are deforestation, industrial growth, faulty vehicles, population growth, and urbanization. There are other causes of air pollution that are beyond human control. For example, smoke from forest or grass fires, desert dust storms, etc. One of the main components of air pollution is carbon dioxide gas. The main sources of this gas are factories and faulty vehicles. The atmospheric temperature rises due to carbon dioxide.
We must be aware now to prevent air pollution, otherwise human civilization will be destroyed. Defective vehicular traffic must be stopped. Special chimneys should be used in factories. মানব সভ্যতা পৃথিবীতে টিকে থাকার জন্য যে উপাদানগুলো সবচেয়ে জরুরি তাদের মধ্যে বায়ু অন্যতম। বাতাস তথা অক্সিজেন ছাড়া কোন মানুষের পক্ষে এক মুহূর্ত বেঁচে থাকা সম্ভব নয়। অথচ এই বায়ুকে আমরা মানুষরাই দুষিত করছি। বিভিন্ন ক্ষতিকারক পদার্থ বাতাসে মেশার কারনে বায়ু দূষণ হয়ে থাকে। বায়ু দূষণের ফলে মানব সভ্যতা আজ হুমকির সম্মুখীন। বায়ু দূষণের ফলে পরিবেশ ও সম্পদ নষ্ট হয়, স্বাস্থ্যের ক্ষতি হয়। এর ফলে দিন দিন বায়ুমণ্ডলের ওজোন স্তর পাতলা হয়ে যাচ্ছে। ফলে ক্ষতিকর অতি বেগুনি রশ্মি ওজোন স্তর ভেদ করে পৃথিবীতে আসতেছে। যার প্রভাব পড়ছে মানুষের শরীরে, ক্যান্সারের মত দুরারোগ্য ব্যধিতে আক্রান্ত হচ্ছে অসংখ্য মানুষ।
বায়ু দূষণের ফলে বিশ্বব্যাপী জলবায়ুর মধ্যে ব্যাপক পরিবর্তন হচ্ছে। পৃথিবীর তাপমাত্রা দিন দিন বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। বর্ষাকালে বৃষ্টি হচ্ছে না, পানির অভাবে ফসল নষ্ট হচ্ছে। আবার ঘন ঘন দেখা দিচ্ছে অতিবৃষ্টি, বন্যা ও জলোচ্ছ্বাসের মত প্রাকৃতিক দুর্যোগ।
বায়ু দূষণের প্রধান কারণগুলো হচ্ছে বৃক্ষ নিধন, শিল্প-কারখানার বৃদ্ধি, ত্রুটিযুক্ত যানবাহন, জনসংখ্যার বৃদ্ধি এবং নগরায়ন। বায়ু দূষণের আরও কিছু কারণ রয়েছে যা মানুষের নিয়ন্ত্রণের বাইরে। যেমন অরণ্যে বা ঘাসে আগুন লাগার ফলে নির্গত ধোঁয়া, মরুভূমির ধুলোঝড় ইত্যাদি। বায়ু দূষণের অন্যতম মূল উপাদান হচ্ছে কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইড গ্যাস। এই গ্যাসের প্রধান উৎস হচ্ছে কলকারখানা এবং ত্রুটিপূর্ণ যানবাহন। কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইডের কারনে বায়ু মণ্ডলের তাপমাত্রা বৃদ্ধি পায়।
বায়ু দূষণ রোধে এখনই আমাদের সচেতন হওয়া উচিৎ, তা নাহলে মানব সভ্যতা ধ্বংসের মুখে পতিত হবে। ত্রুটিপূর্ণ যানবাহন চলাচল বন্ধ করতে হবে। কলকারখানায় ব্যবহার করতে হবে বিশেষ চিমনী। অধিক পরিমাণে গাছ লাগাতে হবে, যাতে করে বাতাসে কার্বন ডাই-অক্সাইডের পরিমাণ কমে এবং অক্সিজেনের পরিমাণ বৃদ্ধি পায়।
